Link to Nadler's piece for "The Stone"

One of the blogs for the New York Times site is called "The Stone" and is devoted wholly to philosophical issues and is even written by philosophers (although contested by others).  The most recent posting is from Steven Nadler himself and on Spinoza, surprisingly.

Check it out.

  1. This is a great article! (I finally read it, since it is relating to my essay topic.) I like how he talks about the freedom of speech and thought, relating to what was discussed in class today:

"What is important is that Spinoza draws the line, albeit a somewhat hazy one, between ideas and action ... But Spinoza explicitly does not include ideas, even the expression of ideas, under the category of “action.”" I assume he means the freedom of speech when he says "expression of ideas." It's amazing how much of what he wrote about still holds true today.
